SoCS 2014 Symposium on Computational Sustainability

The 2014 Symposium on Computational Sustainability (SoCS'14) brings together researchers, users, and practitioners interested in different aspects of sustainability and IT.

The vision, formulated by Carla Gomez at Cornell University is, that computer scientists can — and should — play a key role in increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the way we manage and allocate our natural resources, while enriching and transforming Computer Science. SoCS '14 wants to build on this.

Computational Sustainability is an emerging area that aims to apply techniques and methods from computer science and related disciplines (e.g., information science, applied mathematics, operations research, and statistics) to help manage the growing need of sustainable processes and products in the globalized economy. The focus of Computational Sustainability is on developing computational and mathematical models, techniques, methods, and tools for a broad range of sustainability related applications: from decision making and policy analysis concerning the management and allocation of resources to the design of new sustainable techniques, practices and products.

SoCS’14 will take place in Schloss Klingewalde, Görlitz, Germany, November 26-28, 2014. The scope of SoCS’14 is broad and encompasses diverse topics in the sustainability context such as:

Sustainability in Enterprise IT Solutions
Cloud Computing and Sustainability
Privacy and Social Computing
IT solutions for Carbon Foot-printing and Climate Issues
Energy Informatics and Resource Management
Sustainable IT Services
Smart Data, Business Intelligence
Data Mining, Big Data
Machine Learning
Efficiency and Sustainability in Logistics and Supply

SoCS’14 will host following events:

Technical Talks, 4th SITA meeting, Social Event - November 26, 2014
Technical Talks, Industry Seminar on Corporate Sustainability - November 27, 2014
