3rd SITA-Meeting in Oldenburg/Delmenhorst with the Core Topic Energy Informatics

We wish all SITA-Research members and your families a relaxing and enjoyable Summer!

There is some exiting news about what is going on at SITA-Research but let me first remind you that there is still the opportunity to send us chapter proposals for the Springer edited volume “Computational Sustainability”. Chapter proposals can be submitted until the end of August 2013. Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit a 2-3 pages abstract to (CC. and ) clearly explaining the mission and concerns of the proposed chapter. Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified within 2 to 3 weeks about the status of their proposals. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by October 31, 2013.

All submitted chapters will be reviewed by at least three experts of the field and the final decision of acceptance or rejection will be based on their recommendations. Please find the complete call for chapters at

Furthermore, we would like to announce that this year’s 3rd SITA-Meeting takes place in December in Oldenburg/Delmenhorst and it is co-located with the 1st PhD Workshop on System Integration of Renewable Energy (WSIRE 2013). With this third meeting of the Sustainable Information Technologies and Applications (SITA) initiative we encourage to deepen the collaboration of scientists worldwide to develop sustainable IT solutions. After meetings in Berlin in 2011 and in Munich in 2012, we are happy to welcome you at the campus of the University of Oldenburg and at the Hanse Wissenschaftskolleg (HWK) in Delmenhorst. By directly integrating the SITA-Meeting in the WSIRE 2013 program we want to further encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and networking, and also set the research on renewable energy integration as a core topic of this year's meeting. Besides the SITA-members, PhD students from various fields connected to Computational Sustainability and Energy Informatics in particular are invited to present their research. In breakout sessions, we will discuss hot topics and develop new ideas.

Decreasing natural energy resources, the reduction of emissions, climate change and rising energy costs lead to a change from classic carbon- or nuclear-based power supply to a concentration on renewable energy resources. The movement to a system with a growing amount of renewables is a multidisciplinary undertaking. It affords the development and optimization of technologies, but also their integration and intelligent combination.
The objective of 1st WSIRE 2013 is to bring together researchers on the PhD level from multiple disciplines (chemistry, computer science, economy, physics, etc.) to present their research results, to discuss integration technologies and initiate multidisciplinary projects. WSIRE will provide a forum for interested researchers from the various related domains to present and discuss their findings. WSIRE is organized by the PhD program “Systemintegration Erneuerbarer Energien” (University of Oldenburg) and the bi-national PhD Program cooperation between the PhD program Renewable Energy (University of Oldenburg) and the Institute for Integrated Energy Systems (University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada).
